Artists' Alliance of Sugar Land : Calendar of Events

A Multi Media collection of pen, ink and computer arts illustration by Mishta Smalley.

Even though new to the Houston/ Sugar Land area, Mishta Smalley is an old hand when it comes to juggling colors, contours, paints and ideas.

The show revolves around a central character called Sita and her adventurous Designer life.

Combining illustrated back drops to a highly stylized character design is an experiment Mishta has successfully indulged in.

There is a reflection of Manga in this collection however it shows off a distinct style and draws the audience into each image and the situation unseen before.

Mishta is an avid traveler and in this series she has reflected her on life's experiences through Sita.

Mishta says, before even hitting the drawing board she works on a character sketch. The look of the person whose story she is going to tell. Why is this story different from the many comic, game or movie characters? What sets Sita apart and what is that unique quality that identifies this character? Thus was the creation of Sita; she is a stylish undercover reporter and chases crime in her Choo's. Sita travels the globe solving mysteries and where ever she goes as go her Mark Jacobs LV luggage. Her quest for sensational news takes her from the beaches of Bali to the wild life parks of Tanzania. She's no Lara Croft as not a hair is out of place no matter how absolutely unrealistic crazy incident she is trapped in. Sita puts herself in situations she can't explain--'For, Why?' you might ask. Even though most often she may land in a mess of her own making there is always that thing about, right place right time. Leading her to a life time of fun, crazy incidents she is happy to report back to all who are interested.

Mishta is back to the drawing board and is currently working on a male counterpart of Sita, 'a paradox if you might call him that' she says. This whole collection is a fun filled experience that will interest a wide age group of kids, pre teen or our Sugar land young adults looking for careers in Fashion design, Manga, gaming or even the movies.She brings this trendy and unique branch of arts to the Sugar Land area and offers classes at the Artist Alliance of Sugar Land for people who are full of ideas and want to translate them into images.

Mishta has a BFA from The JJ School of Applied Art Mumbai India and a Masters in 3D animation from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. she has to her credit over 10 years of experience as an Art Director at international advertising agencies like Ogilvy and the Lowe Group.

Besides her singular form of illustrative art, she specialises in Character design mainly for the movies and gaming industry. With degrees in both Illustration and 3D Modelling she has an understanding of human form and anatomy. The strong contour lines and the smooth gestures you see in her illustrations give Mishta Smalley her unique style that she's known for. Mishta practices her Art, teaches here at the Artist Alliance of Sugar land, and enjoys Houston
with her husband Steve, and a dozen designer handbags..
